DAVY RUSSELL: Weekend thoughts from sick bed :(

Those eagle-eyed amongst you will note than I’m not riding in Ireland this weekend having been taken ill last week, so this therefore won’t be the longest of blogs!

I was taken sick in the paddock at Punchestown on Sunday, just before riding Presenting Percy. I had terrible flu-like symptoms and you can’t ride the top class horses if you’re not 100% and to be honest I still don’t feel quite right which is why I’m not riding this weekend.

It’s just one of those things but hopefully I’ll be better and riding again next week.

Looking at this weekend’s action, over in Cheltenham the International Hurdle looks a great race on paper. I was second to Pentland Hills in last season’s Triumph Hurdle (pictured) and if Pentland Hills is the same horse as he was that day he should take a lot of beating again.

As for the big race itself, the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, it looks a wide open contest but it’s a shame Riders Onthe Storm isn’t allowed to take part due to an administrative error and I feel sorry for his connections.

My eyes are drawn to the Paul Nicholls pair Secret Investor and Brelan A’as. The trainer has such a good record in the race and they both look leading contenders.

Over in Ireland, I will be interested to see how Andy Dufresne gets on in the Grade 2 Navan Novice Hurdle. He’s a really exciting prospect and should take all the beating.

I’ll be hopefully back with a much more in-depth blog next week. But in the meantime I’ll get back to bed ๐Ÿ™

Good Luck
DAVY
