EURO 2024 PREVIEW Mon: Albania v Spain

Spain have already secured top spot in Group B ahead of their group finale against Albania, who will be hoping that the favourites take their eye off the ball, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.

Luis de la Fuente’s men were amongst the market leaders before a ball was kicked pre-tournament and they’re now 9/2 with Star Sports after two impressive wins against Croatia and Italy.

They only won 1-0 against the Azzurri but they were utterly dominant, winning the shot count 20-4, the shots on target count 9-1 and the xG count 2.02 to 0.16. If not for Gianluigi Donnarumma’s heroics in goal, La Roja would have won by a clear margin.

Albania have given a good account of themselves here – Nedim Bajrami’s opener against Italy will live long in the memory, along with Klaus Gjasula’s 95th-minute equaliser against Croatia – and with Spain already qualified some fans might hope for a miracle.

However, even a much-changed Spain lineup – Mikel Oyarzabal, Mikel Merino, Ferran Torres and Alex Grimaldo set to come into the team, whilst Rodri is suspended and Nacho and Ayoze Perez are also set to miss out – could be a step up on a Croatian team that conceded 15 shots (7 on target) despite controlling 67% of possession.

With qualification secure and changes likely to be made, short prices about Spain don’t make huge appeal and it might be worth looking to individual players for value. Ferran Torres has 15 goals in 6 starts for Spain, including 2 goals in his last two appearances, and could find himself with plenty of chances to get on the scoresheet tonight.
