EURO 2024 PREVIEW Tues: Austria v Turkey

In the final round-of-16 clash before the quarter-finals begin, Austria take on Turkey with both nations vying for a spot in the last eight of the tournament, writes JOE CITRONE.

Austria navigated the ‘group of death’ in style as they beat both France and the Netherlands to top-spot in Group D with an entertaining 3-2 win over the Dutch in their final group match sealing a last-16 tie with Turkey.

Ralf Rangnick’s side were dubbed by many as potential ‘dark horses’ at the beginning of the tournament, which is often a kiss of death, but they haven’t let that stop them and have looked mightily impressive so far at EURO 2024.

Turkey managed to recover from a horrendous 3-0 defeat to Portugal in their second group match with a 2-1 victory over ten-man Czech Republic to seal a spot in the knockout stages of the Euros for the third time in their history.
