EURO 2024 PREVIEW Weds: Germany v Hungary
Germany got their EURO 2024 campaign off to a flying start with an eye-catching performance against Scotland and they will be looking to build on that when they face Hungary on Wednesday night, writes JOE CITRONE.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side could not have dreamed of a better start to the tournament with a rampant display against a hapless Scotland side – which saw Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Niklas Fullkrug and Emre Can all getting on the scoresheet – sealing a brilliant 5-1 win.
Their aim now will be to build on that and, after seeing Hungary’s struggles against Switzerland in their opening match, Germany will surely fancy their chances of making it two wins out of two in Group A.
After that emphatic display against the Tartan Army, I’d be surprised to see Nagelsmann tinker with his side too much so an unchanged XI seems likely.

In contrast to their Wednesday opponents, it wasn’t the best of starts to EURO 2024 for Hungary with a sluggish first-half proving costly against Switzerland with Marco Rossi’s men falling to a 3-1 defeat.
Led by dynamic midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, Hungary mounted an encouraging second-half fightback after finding themselves 2-0 down at the break to Switzerland, but it was too little too late.
After losing that first game, I can’t imagine hosts Germany would have been their first-choice for their next opponents, but Rossi’s side will be looking to cause a surprise when the two nations meet at the MHPArena.
Germany were terrific in that opening game against Scotland but, despite limiting the Tartan Army to just one shot in the whole match, still found a way to concede which does suggest some vulnerabilities at the back. That’s why I am backing both teams to score at even money here.
Musiala showed what a special player he is, and what England missed out on, in that tournament opener and like the look of him finding the net again anytime at 8/5 with starsports.bet.
And, as a final selection, I am backing Attila Fiola of Hungary – who has a pretty poor disciplinary record having collected four bookings in 12 appearances for Fehervar FC this season – to have a tough time against Germany’s rampant attack and pick up a booking.
