GEORGE BOUGHEY: Newmarket, Compiegne & Kempton
It’s been another good spell for the yard, and a nice way to round off the main part of the season, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.
McMurray continued his sharp rise with a third straight win. He’s a really tough colt from the family of Dubawi, and although he only won a match race last week, he keeps on progressing and looks one to look forward to next year.
Calafiori also got his head back in front. He’s a horse who has always threatened to put it together, and it was good to see him do it properly this time. He might head to the Horses in Training Sale, but he’s a progressive type with options.
As for the big guns, most of them are likely finished for the year. Bow Echo and Awaken have plenty to look forward to in the spring. Attention now shifts to the next wave of two-year-olds who’ll start coming out in the next couple of weeks.
SATURDAY
NEWMARKET
INDIA LOVE – 1.15pm Newmarket
She didn’t handle the very soft ground in the Firth Of Clyde at Ayr when dropping back to five furlongs, but she’s shown plenty of speed and looks an out-and-out five-furlong filly. She’s in here looking for some black type, and although she’ll be a big price, I think she can outrun her odds.
FRIDAY
YORK
DANTE’S LAD – 2.40pm York
He was a bit unlucky at Newbury last time. He travelled into the race well, but it didn’t really pan out for him and he got caught in running. A return to better ground should help, and he seems in very good form. He’s in the Horses in Training Sale next week, and this will be his final run for us. He’s progressed right through the season and deserves to sign off with another good performance.

COMPIEGNE
HEED – 3.03pm Compiegne (France)
She’s a Southern Hemisphere-bred filly who was born later in the year. She is heading to France for a Listed race at Compiegne. She’s only carrying eight stone against ‘older’ fillies, and that should help her. She won her maiden on debut, loves slow ground and looks like she’ll improve for stepping up in trip. She’s flying at home, and I think she can give a good account of herself.
KEMPTON
CASE STUDY – 4.05pm Kempton
Case Study hasn’t quite clicked yet, but she took a step in the right direction last time at Yarmouth having blown the start at Catterick on debut. That was much better, and I hope she can keep progressing again here.
Best Chance of the Weekend:
I’d probably side with Dante’s Lad. He’s still a progressive horse, and I think a return to decent ground will see him in a much better light.
