GEORGE BOUGHEY: Weekend Preview

We are now into the final part of the turf season, with the Horses-in-Training Sale taking place next week, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.

It is always a busy period as trainers look to get one more run into a few before they head to the ring, and we have several that fit that category this weekend.

A few have lively chances across Newbury, Doncaster and Wolverhampton.

FRIDAY

NEWBURY

FOURONEOHFEVER – 2.51pm Newbury

He was good last week and looks to follow up quickly. For a big horse it is slightly unusual that all his wins have come on sharp tracks such as Catterick, Chester and Wolverhampton, but this is a more conventional test. The handicapper was not overly kind giving him eight pounds, but he is three pounds well in today and this looks another nice opportunity.

SATURDAY

DONCASTER

CHIC COLOMBINE – 3.50pm Doncaster

She (blue, below) will get very soft ground for the first time in a long while, which could be important. Her mark has been slipping, and she has been an overachiever earlier in her career, but she is a Listed winner and still shows plenty of enthusiasm at home. The visor and tongue tie go back on, and with no excuses this time, we will see if she can bounce back. She heads to the mares’ sale and could be competitive at a big price.

EL BURHAN – 4.25pm Doncaster

He’s heading to the sales next week and is a horse we have always thought plenty of. He is in very good form and got his reward at Ayr when the ground finally came right for him. Whether he handles it if it turns bottomless remains to be seen, but he is thriving at home and should run a big race if he copes with conditions.

SATURDAY

WOLVERHAMPTON

MISS INDIA – 6.30pm Wolverhampton
She had a small setback after her debut and was not quite right for a time, so this is a fresh start. She is still learning and there is no reason to think she will not run well in what looks an ordinary race.

INNS OF FEAR – 6.30pm Wolverhampton
He has been highly tried this season and has not quite put it together on the track despite working well at home. He is drawn wide so Jack Callan will need to be at his best, but he is another going to the sales next week and it would be nice to see him show more of what he is capable of.

FRANCIS DRAKE – 7.30pm Wolverhampton
Probably our best chance of the weekend. I should not have run him last time over five furlongs at Brighton as he is a proper six-furlong horse. He drops back into novice company here with Jack Callan claiming five and a good draw. He has been in excellent form and should go close.

GEORGE’S BEST CHANCE

Francis Drake has a good draw, is back at the right trip and drops back into novice company. Hopefully he’ll go well!
