GEORGE BOUGHEY: Weekend Preview

We are over in France for the first yearling sales of the year trying to pick up the next stars! writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.

We have a busy couple of days ahead with six runners on Friday before Awaken and Survie both take their chances in some valuable races abroad on Saturday.

Friday

Junior Again – 2:38pm Yarmouth

Junior Again is a breeze-up horse who we gave a bit of a break to after the sale and he has done really well since. He has been training nicely and, while it looks a warm novice as you would expect at Yarmouth, I think he should run very well.

Lady Dora Mae – 3:03pm Clairefontaine

Lady Dora Mae goes back into stakes company after a big run at Goodwood. She deserves her place in the line-up and we are looking to pick up some more black type with her. The distance is a little bit of a question mark, but I am more than happy to take the chance and she heads to France in great shape.

Evenfall – 4:45pm Newbury

Evenfall has trained well since winning on debut and this looks the natural next step for her, stepping up to six furlongs on a nice track. Her work has been very good and hopefully she can give a good account of herself. She is a filly we hope can continue to progress into better races in time.

Mount Street – 5:18pm Newmarket

Mount Street is a daughter of Persian Force having her first day at school. She has a pedigree which suggests she will improve with time, but it is good to get her started and she should give a good account of herself.

Havana Lightning – 5:23pm Newbury

Havana Lightning is a filly who was very weak at Royal Ascot and I think that race probably came a bit too soon for her. Her work has been good since and I think she can outrun her odds in the St Hugh’s Stakes. A flat five furlongs looks right up her street and I think she should run very well.

Zatsgood – 5:58pm Newbury

Zatsgood ran well at Newcastle last time and he is a horse who is pretty versatile trip-wise. Seven furlongs to a mile suits him and fast ground at Newbury should be perfect. He is starting to put a few good races together now and I think he can continue to climb the grades when things fall his way.

Saturday

Awaken – 3:25pm Deauville

Awaken has probably trained as well as she ever has heading into the Group 3 Prix de Lieurey. I was delighted with her at Goodwood and she looks to be progressing. We won this race a couple of years ago with Soprano. Awaken has obviously not achieved what she did at this stage, but I think this is the best we have ever had her. She wants fast ground, I think she is better around a bend and she will be ridden forward. The race has been the plan since Goodwood and I think she can run very well.

Survie – 10:06pm Saratoga

Survie has been brilliant since arriving in Saratoga and she really seems to thrive out there. I am delighted to see her back up to a mile and a half for the Grade 1 Christophe Clement Stakes and it looks a great spot for her. With a non-runner there are only six in the field and she is drawn seven. She loved it around Saratoga last time and I think she is in the form of her life. It is a great opportunity to pick up some valuable Grade 1 black type, but I think she goes there with a genuine winning chance.
