GEORGE BOUGHEY: Weekend Preview

Curragh for a Group 3, before Oliver Show rounds off the weekend at Goodwood on Sunday, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.

SATURDAY

DELLA PACE – 3.40pm Curragh

We have been waiting for some rain with Della Pace and I was encouraged by her run back in June in what looked a warm race. She has trained beautifully into this and I couldn’t be much happier with her.

The intermediate trip of nine furlongs should be bang on and a stiff track with some slower ground gives her plenty in her favour. It looks the right spot for her.

QUEEN OF SCOTLAND – 3.45pm Goodwood

Queen Of Scotland is a nice, big, scopey and rangy filly who has taken plenty of time, which is in keeping with her pedigree. This has been the plan for a while and she is a filly we have always liked.

The normal first-day-of-school rules apply, but she is GBB Plus qualified, so she is racing for a £50,000 purse as well as a £40,000 bonus. I think she goes there with a lively chance.

BOYSOFWALLSTREET – 4.30pm Windsor

Boysofwallstreet was much rawer than we expected on his first two starts, but hopefully he can take another step forward here.

I think a straight track and six furlongs is exactly what he needs at the moment and I would expect him to improve again.

ARTHUR CARROT – 4.30pm Windsor

Arthur Carrot ran beautifully on debut and possibly a little better than we expected. It is a race that lacks any real depth and we won it last year with Nisali.

We haven’t had a huge amount of time to assess him since his debut, but I think he has taken a step forward and this looks the perfect spot for him. He would probably be my best chance of the weekend.

ROXA LOVE – 4.40pm Chepstow

Roxa Love was good at Brighton and we have just been feeling our way with her since. She beat a decent horse of Kevin’s, Henley On Thames, who subsequently went on to win a nursery at York, so there is a decent level of form there.

Minster Man looks pretty scary on the form book tied into the form with our smart filly Evenfall, but I think Roxa Love will handle the track and it looks a bit of a match on paper. I’m very happy with how she has been training.

DOWMAN – 5.15pm Chepstow

Dowman has been very consistent and he certainly won’t mind a bit of rain. The track is a slight question mark for him, but he is drawn in amongst them and I think he goes there with a good chance.

Billy felt last time that he just needs to get his toe in, so hopefully conditions allow him to do that on Saturday.

SUNDAY

OLIVER SHOW – 2.00pm Goodwood

Oliver Show is in very good shape and ran beautifully at Goodwood last time, producing a huge effort in what I would imagine was a much more competitive race than this.

He is back over his favoured mile and I think he is very live off the same mark. He isn’t ground dependent and goes there with a pretty decent each-way chance.
