GEORGE BOUGHEY: Weekend Preview (Newbury, Curragh, Redcar)
We have a pair of promising juveniles making their racecourse debuts at Newbury before Rosy Affair heads across to Ireland for a valuable Group 2 assignment on Saturday, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.
Here’s my look ahead to the weekend’s runners.

FRIDAY
GOLDEN EAGLE – 3:00pm Newbury
Golden Eagle is a nice colt we bought from the Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale who has settled into life at home really well. He’s very much a horse for next year physically, but he’s shown a decent level of ability in his work and this looks an ideal starting point.
Seven furlongs on Newbury’s galloping track should suit him well and, while he’ll no doubt improve for the experience, I’m looking forward to seeing him get started.
TAKAAFUL – 3:35pm Newbury
Takaaful is a well-bred filly out of a Group 3 winner who has really come to hand over the last month. She grew and strengthened throughout the spring and early summer, and we’ve been pleased with the progress she’s made.
She’s a filly we think can continue improving through the autumn and hopefully work her way up the ranks. We like her and she’s ready to make her debut.
SATURDAY
ROSY AFFAIR – 3:25pm Curragh (Group 2 Sapphire Stakes)
Rosy Affair ran a huge race when finishing 4th in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot and this Group 2 has been the plan for some time. She’s already a Listed and Group 3 winner, so stepping back up into Group 2 company makes perfect sense.
I couldn’t be happier with how she’s trained and she travelled over to Ireland on Thursday. She’s got a nice draw in the middle, there looks to be plenty of pace, and this will tell us plenty about where we go next, whether that’s back up to six furlongs or perhaps towards something like the Flying Five later in the season. I’m really looking forward to seeing how she gets on.
SUNDAY
KAORI – 3:33pm Redcar
Kaori has a couple of entries this weekend, so we’ll make a final decision closer to declarations, but the plan is for her to run.
She’s a very well-bred filly and it’s important that we can get her head in front. It was good to see her back on form last time and, wherever she ends up running, we’re hopeful she’ll be very competitive.
George’s Best of the weekend
Rosy Affair looks the one I’m most looking forward to this weekend. She has trained exactly as we’d hoped since Royal Ascot and deserves to get a win at this level.
