KENNEL VISIT: Craig Morris has been Hayley Keightley’s Assistant Trainer for three years now and thinks that this year, the kennel have a strong team to take to the Star Sports Greyhound Derby. Here he runs through their runners, including the Gold Cup favourite, Hiya Boyo and a couple of newbies to the kennel.
Hiya Boyo lines up as the favourite for the Gold Cup final at Monmore on Saturday night. After his impressive semi-final win and his trap one draw for the final, Craig gives us his views on the dog’s chances. All being well, he will then head to Nottingham for the Star Sports Derby, currently as a 33/1 ante post chance.
Roxholme Olaf is a brand new dog to the Keightley kennel, coming over from Ireland specifically with the Star Sports Derby in mind. After an impressive run at Shelbourne Park, Craig tells us why he is excited by the newbie.
Droopys Regal is a well bred 2018 dog out of Irish Derby winner Good News. He’s had just the two races for the kennel but certainly has scope to mature and improve.
Roxholme Dolly is undoubtedly a talented bitch who was only beaten two lengths by Ice On Fire in the Puppy Classic at Nottingham last August. She will be just over three when the Star Sports Derby starts and the kennel are hoping she will take her place.
Roxholme Glory hasn’t raced since lockdown. But all being well, the dog who made last year’s semi-finals, might well take his chance again.
