Husband and wife training duo Liz and Rab McNair have the biggest team of dogs from England heading to the Star Sports Derby at Nottingham. Julie Collier paid a visit to their kennel to find out the state of play with some of their established, proven runners and, two days before the start of the Monmore Puppy Derby, to find out how Liz and Rab rate some of their youngsters coming through.
Part 1 – King Dylan and Queen Beyonce
King Dylan and Queen Beyonce are dogs we have come to know well, out of Eden The Kid and Skate On, this February 2017 litter have done the McNairs proud. Here, Rab explains why 2019 semi-finalist, Beyonce sadly won’t be heading to this years Star Sports Derby and why he has a funny feeling about Dylan.
Part 2 – King Lennon
King Lennon was most recently runner-up in the Winter Derby at Hove. Another talented brother from the litter, Rab rates his chances at 125/1 ante post for the Star Sports Derby.
Part 3 – King Cash
King Cash is the biggest priced dog of the McNair contenders for the Star Sports Derby but maybe he shouldn’t be…Liz and Rab tell us why.
Part 4 – King Sheeran
A Star Sports Derby semi-finalist last year, King Sheeran has done Liz and Rab McNair proud winning three category one finals since last year at Nottingham. He’s currently priced at 50/1, the shortest of the McNair dogs and maybe with good reason as Rab explains, he could be an even better dog this year.
Part 5 – Queen Dolly and King Louis
Queen Dolly is 150/1 for the Star Sports Derby, as a bitch that always races in top company and is rarely out of the frame. Her brother, King Louis has mixed form in open class company and is 80/1 ante post.
Part 6 – Queen Jessiej and King Drake
Queen Jessiej certainly made many of us stand up and take notice of her right from her debut at Central Park. Here, Liz and Rab McNair tell us just how good they think she is. Along with her brother, King Drake, she will be assessed at Monmore and depending how far they come forward, they might well make up part of the McNair Derby squad.
Part 7 – King Axle
King Axle is another exciting puppy who is obviously a kennel favourite. A big, strong, powerful dog that we will be learning more about over the coming weeks.
Part 8 – Queen Lilly and King Bruno
Queen Lilly is a bitch the McNairs have intentionally taken their time with because they think she could be special. She will hopefully head to Nottingham alongside her brother, King Bruno who has flown around Hove on his only start to date.
Part 9 – Liz and Rab McNair
Here, Liz and Rab McNair tell us what it would mean to them to win the Star Sports Derby. They also assess their most likely winner as things stand and discuss what they like the look of outside of their kennel.
