Greyhound Derby Kennel Visit: Pat and Emma Buckley

Pat Buckley won the Derby with Deerjet Sydney in 2020. It’s a competition that means an awful lot to the whole Buckley team. Once again, this year, he and his daughter Emma will be heading over for what they hope will be an eight week stay with June Harvey near Southampton. And they’re bringing their biggest team yet.

Singalong Sally

This is a bitch who needs no introduction. The Irish Derby runner-up is a competition bitch through and through with a CV bigger than many of the greats. The kennel have chosen to skip the Irish Oaks to be able to bring her to Towcester. She heads the team.

Cushie Concord

This is a dog who has only had five races, the latest being at Enniscorthy when trained by John Codd and the dog broke the track record in great style. Now in the hands of the Buckley’s, this one is an exciting prospect.

Bobsleigh Dream

Another young, February 2020 bitch who ran in the Kirby but went out in the first round. She has since raced at Waterford and Tralee with success and we will be learning about as we go at Towcester.

Scarty Yank

Emma Buckley speaks extremely highly of this dog who was very impressive in winning he Star Sports Derby trial stake at Tralee, beating Good Cody. He has only had eight races so the best may still be to come.

Ballinabola Ed

A June 2020 pup who has been highly thought of by the kennel for a while. He has also only had eight races, including making it to the very hot Kirby Memorial final, a night that will have given him invaluable experience as Emma explains.

Glengar Scholar

Glengar Scholar has been reared by the Buckley’s since he was a baby. A Kirby semi-finalist and another who only has nine races under his belt so far.

Gaston Pecas

This dog is currently engaged in the Irish Cesarewitch at Mullingar so, all being well, if he qualifies again at the weekend, he will join the rest of the team in the UK a little later. A proven strong runner who can show a nice bit of early too.

Lenson On Ice

The Jury is out as to whether or not this pup Lenson On Ice will run at Towcester as Emma explains. This is a dog that the kennel have always thought so highly of and there is no doubting his blistering early pace.

Another dog who will only just be two years old come the Derby final. A beautiful, 36kg dog who has had his niggles but if the team can get him right for Towcester, he could be anything.

Glengar Jenny

A natural wide runner who, again, has only had eight races to date. She ran brilliantly at Shelbourne last year so the question is, can that form transfer to Towcester?
