HARRY SKELTON: Aintree Sunday
Just the two rides in the end on Saturday and I had a good spin from Valgrand in the bumper but we couldn’t quite peg back The Kemble Brewery. As I said in yesterday’s blog we thought he would handle the track and it was a great first day at school for him to build on.
The good class jumps racing continues this weekend at Aintree on Sunday and here are my thoughts on my five booked rides ….
MY DROGO – 2:00pm Jewson Fast Set Finish Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase (Grade 2) ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐
Sunday’s Old Roan Chase sees the return of My Drogo (pictured with me below). We’re looking forward to getting him back out onto the racecourse after a long time off. We’re pretty sure he retains plenty of ability. Everything has been going nicely at home, he’s done a lot of work – as much as we could do really – but he hasn’t really been anywhere to have a gallop. Win, lose or draw we will hopefully see some improvement from the back of this run. He’s not the easiest to place off his mark, as he’s had two runs and won over fences, so he’s not a novice. We’re starting off in a high-class handicap, but our hand has been played for us.
THEFORMISMIGHTY – 2:35pm Jewson Birkenhead, Price Street Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 3) ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐
Theformismighty has had two nice runs in point-to-points, the first time when he was beaten by Stay Away Fay. Next up he won and really finished his race off strongly. He then had an injury which made him miss a bit of time. He’s done lots of work at home though and we’re looking forward to getting a nice horse onto the track. We’re looking to see plenty of improvement from him, but he is a horse that we like.
LAC DE CONSTANCE – 3:10pm Jewson Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 2) ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐
Lac De Constance runs in the 2m4f handicap hurdle. He looked to be pretty promising over fences early last season but he then went west, as his jumping let him down. We’re putting him back into a handicap hurdle to rebuild his confidence, and first and foremost we want to see him put in a good clear round. He’s a horse with plenty of ability.
PEMBROKE – 3:45pm Jewson St Helens Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race) (Class 3) ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐
We run Pembroke (pictured at home below) in the 2m handicap chase. He ran really nicely at Uttoxeter first time up and hopefully, with natural progression, he should go very close here. Everything has gone nicely since Uttoxeter and he’s a horse with plenty of ability, so we’re expecting a big run from him.
LADY JAGO – 4:20pm Jewson Southport, Bispham Road EBF Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race (Category 1 Elim’) (GBB Race) (Class 4) ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐
Lady Jago runs in the bumper. She’s very straightforward and will handle plenty of cut in the ground. She won her point on soft ground and she gallops well, so if the ground does go very soft, I think that will be to her advantage. It’s a long home straight for a bumper horse at Aintree, but I think she’ll be doing her best work late on.
