HARRY SKELTON: Ayr Saturday
We move on to Ayr after what was a fantastic week at Aintree, where everything seemed to go well and the team was in great form throughout, writes HARRY SKELTON.
It’s always nice to carry that kind of momentum forward, and hopefully we can keep things rolling in Scotland.

SATURDAY
AYR
CALICO – 1:10pm Ayr
We kick things off with Calico, who enjoyed a very solid autumn campaign. He just found things a little tough off his mark in Grand Annual at Cheltenham last time, but there was plenty to like about his run at Newbury the start before. He seems in good form at home, and it’s helpful having the top-weight, Matata, in there to keep a bit of weight off his back. He’s probably on a fairly stiff mark at the moment, but we’ll see how he gets on.

DIAMOND DEALER – 1:45pm Ayr
He has had a brilliant year and just keeps finding a way to win. He hasn’t been overly punished by the handicapper for those successes, as he’s been doing just enough in front, which is always a good sign. He’s in great form at home, and stepping up to three miles around here should suit him well. It’ll be my first time riding him, but there’s no reason to think he won’t go well.
TELLHERTHENAME – 2:20pm Ayr
This will be my first ride on this lad as well. He ran a fair race at Cheltenham in the County Hurdle, and hopefully that will have brought him on a bit. He’s been training well at home, and to be honest, he looks nicely handicapped at the moment. The ground should suit him, so there are plenty of positives. If he can get back to his best – and I think he’s not far off – he should go well.
TWISTTHENIGHTAWAY – 2:55pm Ayr
She runs in the three-mile mares’ handicap, and with the ground looking likely to be soft, that should play to her strengths. She won pretty handily last time and has a nice light weight on her back again. She’ll need to step up once more, but I think that improvement is very possible. I’d be very hopeful of a good run.
KEOPS DES BORDES – 4:48pm Ayr
He finished second to No Drama This End on his last start back in December 2024. He’s had a few niggly issues since then, which is why he’s been off the track for a while. He’s in good form at home now and we’ve done as much work with him as we can, so hopefully he’ll come forward again and show a bit more in this bumper. We’re keen to get him out to gain some experience before a summer break, and ultimately, we’re looking forward to sending him over hurdles in time.
