HARRY SKELTON: Haydock Saturday Thoughts…

I’m back racing and looking forward to a busy few days ahead, writes HARRY SKELTON.

Haydock is the main focus, with a selection of Series Finals offering some opportunities in valuable races, which are exactly the kind of races we want to be competing in at this stage of the season.

We’ll also be sending a couple of runners to Newton Abbot, and I’m hopeful they can both put in solid performances. On the Flat, Gambino heads up to Musselburgh, where hopefully he can give a good account of himself as well.

HAYDOCK

SATURDAY

FIRST CANDIDATE – 1:37pm Haydock

She ran really well last time at Kelso, going close in a valuable handicap. She now drops back into novice company, which looks a good opportunity for her. She’s come out of that Kelso run in great form, and if she builds on that performance, I think she’ll take plenty of beating.

ICE IN THE VEINS – 2:12pm Haydock

He looks to have as good a chance as he’s had for a while here. He’s been running a bit keen this season, but showed more the last day at Ludlow, which was encouraging. If he can settle better, that will give him his best chance. With a couple of runs under his belt now, he should be spot on, and the trip and ground are both in his favour so hopefully he can be competitive.

BLUE CARPET – 2:46pm Haydock

He’s had a really good year and has progressed nicely since stepping up to three miles. This looks like a suitable race for him, and with it being Finals Day there’s plenty of prize money on offer, so it’s a good opportunity. He seems in great form at home, and there’s no reason why he can’t go well again.

LE MILOS – 3:20pm Haydock

He runs in the Middle Distance Veterans’ Final. He’s been knocking on the door with a series of solid runs and comes here in good form. He’s showing all his usual enthusiasm at home, and if things fall his way, hopefully he can be competitive.

BROOKSIDE LA – 4:30pm Haydock

He ran well here at Haydock last time and had won the time before at Wetherby. He looks to be improving with racing. He steps up to three miles here, which I don’t think will be an issue. He seems fresh and well at home and there’s still plenty of improvement in him, so hopefully there’s more to come.

MAJOR FORTUNE – 5:05pm Haydock

In his last few runs, he’s been pretty consistent. He’s run at Haydock before, finishing down the field, but he seems in good form. He doesn’t have much in hand – the handicapper has got him right where he wants him – but hopefully he’ll still be competitive.
