HARRY SKELTON: Kadastral win at Newbury – Weekly Debrief
It was great to land a valuable prize with Kadastral last weekend and he’s a horse we’re really looking forward to next season and beyond, writes HARRY SKELTON.
There were also some nice performances from our other runners and they seem to be hitting form now we’re into the spring.

BEAU QUALI
He just failed to see out the trip really. I was riding him cold to come home strong, but he didn’t manage to do that from the back of the last. He’s been on the go quite a while and maybe just needs a bit of a holiday. I think he can run a bit better than this and we might try him over fences next season.
RISKINTHEGROUND
It was a nice run from him, and he hit the line really strongly. He seems to be going in the right direction now and coming into a good bit of form. He could go up to Ayr now for a handicap. The ground should be good for him up there and if that’s the case he’ll go there with a nice chance.
KADASTRAL
He did it very nicely in a valuable bumper. This was a good step forward from his first run at Kempton – the more galloping track at Newbury suited him. He’s a horse we really like, I think he’s got a lot of class about him and it was nice for him to go and show it on the track. We’re really excited about him going over hurdles next season. Ultimately, I really do see him as a proper chaser as he’s got plenty of scope about him, so whatever he does over hurdles will be a bonus.

MAJOR FORTUNE
He was in top gear the whole way over two miles on good ground. He needed another run to qualify for a mark and timewise this race suited him well before he goes to Ayr for a handicap chase. He’s won at two miles on heavy ground, and three miles on good, soft and heavy ground, so he’s pretty versatile but I think the sort of ground he encountered at Newbury meant two miles was a bit sharp for him. A step up in trip is probably now what he wants. That said, he jumped round well and gained some nice experience.
