HARRY SKELTON: Kelso, Newbury & Doncaster Saturday
I’m heading up to Kelso on Saturday for four rides in some valuable races that have great prize money on offer, writes HARRY SKELTON.
We also send a handful of runners to Newbury and Doncaster.
KELSO
SATURDAY
PROTEKTORAT – 1:40pm Kelso
This looks a lovely opportunity for him. On figures, we’re well on top and hopefully he goes there puts in a good effort and takes plenty of beating. He’s in great form and is a credit to himself. After this hopefully we’ll look to go to Aintree.

LE BEAU MADRIK – 2:15pm Kelso
He’s improving nicely and going the right way. Two-miles-two-furlongs should be suitable for him in the Premier Novices’ Hurdle. It looks like a competitive race as you would imagine for the money on offer, but he’s in very good form and looks to have every chance.
QUAVISTE – 2:55pm Kelso
He’s snuck in at the bottom of the weights in the Morebattle Hurdle. This race is worth a lot of prize money, so we were keen to run one in it. He’s got to step up on what he’s done so far, but I think it was a nice run last time at Kempton. He’s an improving horse and I think he is well-handicapped, although whether he has the experience for a race like this yet remains to be seen. We’re going to need a bit of luck in running over two miles here, but we’re hopeful that he can pick up a bit of prize money.
BELAYA RIVER – 4:00pm Kelso
It’s nice to pick up a spare ride aboard Belaya River for Harry Derham in the juvenile hurdle. He won last time at Catterick and seems a pretty straightforward horse, so should have every chance.
NEWBURY
SATURDAY
HELTENHAM – 3:45pm Newbury
He goes in the Greatwood Gold Cup, a race he has won before. It was nice to get a clear round of jumping into him last time out in the Clarence House and this is obviously more realistic with him being back in a handicap. He tends to show his best form around Newbury, so hopefully he goes there with a live chance.
LADY BOUJEE – 4:58pm Newbury
She goes in the bumper. She was a bit unfortunate last time out at Huntingdon as she nearly got brought down when going pretty nicely and just about to move into the race. I’d like to think she can run well here. Ultimately, she’s a jumper for further down the line and is likely to get two-and-a-half miles next season over hurdles, which is something we’re looking forward to.
DONCASTER
SATURDAY
BROOMFIELD ADERRA – 1:25pm Doncaster
She lines up in the Listed three-mile mares’ hurdle after running very well on her last start in a handicap at Aintree. This trip is no problem, she stays well and she looks to hold a good chance in what is a competitive race.
THEFORMISMIGHTY – 2:30pm Doncaster
He has snuck into the Grimthorpe at the bottom of the weights. He won at Newcastle last time and it was good to get his head back in front there. He can be a bit inconsistent, but he’s in good form at home and hopefully winning last time has filled him with confidence. We would be delighted if he could pick up some prize money.

YUMMY – 3:40pm Doncaster
He ran okay in his bumper but hasn’t shown too much in three starts over hurdles. This is his first time in a handicap and I think the experience will do him good.
