HARRY SKELTON: Weekend Preview

We had a brilliant day at Exeter on Friday, with a treble that included winning the Haldon Gold Cup with Thistle Ask and the Silver Trophy with Doyen Quest, writes HARRY SKELTON.

Both horses jumped brilliantly well from the front and it was a joy to ride them.

They were perfectly prepared by Dan and all at the yard. Thistle Ask has improved hugely already this season, and it was great to get Doyen Quest off the mark for the campaign. We hope there’s more to come from both of them. Theonewedreamof winning the handicap chase was the cherry on top.

Tomorrow we’re heading to Aintree where I’ve got three rides, including Jet Plane in the Grand Sefton.

AINTREE

SATURDAY

ONLY WAY IS UP – 12.20pm Aintree

We were a bit disappointed with his Exeter run as we thought he’d perform a bit better than that. The ground was very testing in that bumper and he’d been waiting for a while to get on track. I think he’s better than that bare result. We’ve done plenty of work with him, but I expect him to step forward from this run, as is the case with many of our novices this season. He should still run well and should be a nice horse further down the line.

HIDDEN HISTORY – 1.30pm Aintree

He goes over fences for the first time having got a few nice runs under his belt for us last season, including a win and a second up at Perth – losing to Rambo T who’s come out and done the form no harm. He’s schooled nicely and should go well over this three-mile trip, for all he’s likely to improve for the run. He’s a big, burly horse and he’ll get better as the season progresses, especially when the rain comes – he’ll like that.

JET PLANE – 2.40pm Aintree

He finished second in the Foxhunters over these fences last season and his previous run at Worcester should stand him in good stead coming here. He’s been training really well and we couldn’t be happier with him. He should hold a competitive chance as he’s got the experience and is in great form, so we’re hoping he can pick up some of the valuable prize money on offer.
