I’m heading to Wetherby on Saturday for six rides, all of whom look to have a live chance on paper and I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on, writes HARRY SKELTON.

WETHERBY

SATURDAY

MINELLA HOLLOW – 12:35pm Wetherby

In the opener, I ride an Irish horse trained by John Nallen who arrives in good form. He has a nice rating of 125 and, although I’ve never ridden him before, what I’ve seen of him suggests he has a very good chance. He’s been showing some solid form recently and, if he can reproduce that on Saturday, I think he’ll go very close. I’m looking forward to getting aboard and seeing what he can do.

PALAMON – 1:10pm Wetherby

He was possibly a little unlucky last time at Plumpton, so I think there is a case to be made for him putting up a better performance here. He should enjoy the good ground, which is a big positive, although he will need to step up again as this looks a more competitive contest. Hopefully, with a bit more luck this time around, he can show what he’s capable of.

KATEIRA – 1:45pm Wetherby

Kateira won this race last year, so she comes back for another crack at it and hopefully can put up another good performance. She had a run at Chepstow which should have blown away the cobwebs, and she’s come out of that in good form. She’s another who really appreciates decent ground, which is a big positive going into Saturday. She’s a year older now, but she’s been going nicely at home and I’m very happy with how she’s been working. I’d like to think she can be very competitive again and hopefully go very close to repeating last year’s success.

TAKE NO CHANCES – 2:18pm Wetherby

She enjoyed a brilliant season last year, performing consistently well over distances of two-and-a-half and three miles, and I think she is particularly well treated at the weights here. She has run very well in this race before, so we know she handles the test, and much like Kateira, she has a run under her belt which should have brought her on nicely for this assignment. She goes into the race in good form, and I would be hopeful of seeing her run a very big race.

You always have to respect the opposition, as there are some decent horses in the line-up, including Strong Leader who got the better of us last year. Paggane is one who particularly catches my eye and looks an interesting contender, but I am looking forward to seeing how our mare gets on.

PIC D’ORHY – 2:55pm Wetherby

He ran a fantastic race in the Charlie Hall last year, particularly given the conditions, which look very similar to what he will face again this time around. One positive heading into this year’s renewal is that he doesn’t have to carry the 6lb penalty he had last year, which should hopefully give him an even better chance. His form at home has been excellent, he is showing plenty of enthusiasm and I couldn’t be happier with how he is coming into the race. He seems in a really good place physically and mentally, and we’re looking forward to running him back at Wetherby. Hopefully, he can build on last year’s performance and go one better this time around.

FILIBUSTERING – 3:30pm Wetherby

I ride Filibustering for Harry Derham here. He looks to have a competitive chance and goes into the race with plenty to recommend him. He is a little higher in the weights than when he last won, but that was a very valuable handicap at Cartmel, so it was a good performance. His most recent run at Chepstow looked as though he needed it, and hopefully that outing will have brought him on nicely ahead of this assignment. Conditions shouldn’t be an issue for him, which is another positive. I’m not sure how much more he has in hand off his current mark, but this looks a very open race and, if he can get back to the form he showed when winning at Cartmel, I think he has every chance of being competitive.
