JUST WILLIAM: Looking forward to …..
Hello all,
First things first, thanks so much to everyone who got in touch with a suggestion for the best documentaries they’ve seen this summer. As expected, there were a couple of omissions that really managed to spark debate – apologies to Michael Jordan are in order here – and a whole host of new material to burn through for many of the humid, sleepless nights that we’ve had so much during August.
Whilst waiting for free time to watch those documentaries, something else came to mind. We’re about to head into September, and this year’s been challenging to say the least – so to brighten things up – let’s talk about what we’re looking forward to for the rest of this year!
1️⃣ The Tour de France
This is always one of the highlights of the year, but this year the Tour feels even more important than in past summers. Organisers have created one of the most exciting tour starts in history, which hopefully will lead to some explosive racing in the first week. If you’re finding a gap to fill – especially for those who loved having entire days filled by test cricket – then look no further.
2️⃣ No Time To Die
I don’t talk about films often, but those of you reading this who know me will be aware of just how much I adore thrilling action movies, and none have been better than Daniel Craig’s James Bond. Yours truly was absolutely crushed when the premiere – for which he had been waiting for over a year – was delayed, but with cinemas reopening a November release date (the 12th) is set and that should make late October and the early winter for the.
3️⃣ Return of Racing
You’ll have seen this already, but there’s a chance for us to go racing again! The St Leger and Cambridgeshire meetings will have spectators, and Warwick will also have another trial day too. Fingers crossed that socially distanced jump racing can take place too – could we have enough hope that Cheltenham’s Showcase meeting will see members return at least?
4️⃣ The Masters
This will be an event that feeds – to say the least – very different to normal, but the Masters is one of the highlights of any sporting year and seeing the world’s best tear up Georgia is special whether it’s in April or November, with fans or not.
5️⃣ TV releases
The pandemic has hit the creative industries incredibly hard, but we can still look forward to some top TV premieres towards the end of the year. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that The Crown (with Olivia Coleman, no less) returns on the 15th November, but amongst other releases I’ve spotted are two interesting ones from America in the shape of The Comey Show (Showtime, September 27th The Reagans (Showtime, November 15th). If you’ve got anything that you’re looking forward to, let me know!
What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?
