JUST WILLIAM: The Testing One

Hello one and all! Thanks for your responses to last week’s question, on taking moonshot gambles. They were warmly received and the superb suggestion from friend of the column Patrick English looks sure to provide him some thrills through the years and decades ahead – assuming all goes well (or not).

Keeping the theme similar this week – I asked you all about your own testing fiascos, following the calamity we’re now in with Coronavirus testing. Again, you didn’t disappoint:

I had to feel sympathy for Hugo Gordon:

I was in awe of the Racing Post’s Bill Barber at this admission:

A left-field connection from Friend Of The Column @gamblinglamb:

“I once spent 30 minutes trying to solve a Laplace transform in a university exam because I’d written down a 5 that looked like an S. That’s really funny to about 0.1% of people.”

There were plenty of actual COVID tales too. Firstly this from Jon:

This came from a friend who will remain nameless:

“My family were supposed to drive 2 hours away to Wales just to get a COVID test. Unfortunately, our car broke down on the way, so instead they had to drive nearly an hour and a half away to Cardiff to get tests (I was sick and wanted testing just in case because of symptoms but I couldn’t get a home test at all and I personally don’t drive). The kids aren’t allowed back at school until they’re tested and they’ve already missed so much due to COVID – so the next day and they had to borrow a car from a different family member to get there!”

And another one, from ‘Becky’, who got in touch via Facebook:

“My brother was having issues getting hold of a test, my mum works for the CCG so she managed to get him one that way. His test was done last thursday and (it transpires) a result obtained the same day (which was luckily negative). However, after days and days of chasing, he wasn’t actually given that result for a WEEK. Was rather frustrating…”

It seems that plenty of readers have had their own testing nightmare – what’s yours? Please email william@starsportsbet.co.uk or get in touch via Twitter!

Thanks for reading,
William!
