No ‘ooly fooly’ at Motcombs

Motcombs do it properly. I am a regular at this effortlessly classy
Belgravia establishment and have always been impressed by the owner’s,
Philip Lawless, presentation of his restaurant and it’s menu. He is a man
of exquisite taste and whilst sitting in the basement area, decorated in art
that he has collected throughout his life, you feel like you are drifting
off into not only another world, but another time in history.

Philip is EXTREMELY posh but he’s actually very down to earth and so are,
admirably, considering it’s location, the prices in his restaurant.
Starters for comfortably under a tenner and mains available from under
fifteen quid, I have NEVER heard a bad word said about this place. You
could have ANYTHING on the menu and you’d enjoy it and eat it all up. There
are no ‘ooly fooly’ options for the pretentious, it’s good old fashioned
grub, at sensible prices, in an area where such qualities are rarely
respected or adhered to. In our hard times, when so many of the Gaul Wood
‘ooly fooly’ artichoke heart, samphire, and gratinated cauliflower puree
establishments have fallen to the curb, Motcombs is still going strong with
a loyal band of followers. We also enjoy hospitality afternoons and
evenings for our clients in the private rooms they have available, which you
can sit back in, pose shamelessly, and pretend you’re a member of the
high-living aristocracy for the day.

Top recommendations, for when you manage to avoid the monstrosities that are
Prezzo and Eat, and can get down to Motcombs for lunch: Crunchy Calamare for
starters and Trio of Fish in stir fry rice for mains. Oohh errr missus, I
think I’m on way back over there now!

Well done, Philip. Keep the good work up!!

In other news:

Have at last finished all six hundred and fifty three pages of ‘The
Corrections’. Andrew Needleman’s, Star’s legal saviour, and my
right-hand-man, Gaul Wood’s, number-one book recommendation, was testing for
me in it’s length at times, as I have a goldfish’s attention span, but is
certainly a unique and absorbing read. Jonathan Franzen is without doubt
the most emotinally intelligent writer I have read of modern writers. His
character studies are touching, and probing at the same time, and I am now a
fully fledged member of the ‘The Corrections’ fan club. It’s so addictive,
it’s almost edible, so stick in on your ‘to read’ list, you’ll love it! I’m
such a fan, being a ‘four eyes’, I have rushed out to my optician, Early and
Edmonds, to buy a set of Jonathan Franzen’s cool black-rimmed glasses too!

Over and out, Ben x
