Premier League Week 3 – Bournemouth

The 2013 Premier League of darts has as expected got off to a great start with tremendous matches and some great individual performances. Raymond van Barneveld has probably been the most impressive to date in disposing of Gary Anderson in week one and Wes Newton in week two.

Taylor has been his normal efficient self and Michael van Gerwen, in his debut season, has been unlucky not to register a win in his two matches having posted two draws against Robert Thornton and Phil Taylor. Last week’s match against Thornton was probably the highlight of the Premier League so far and is the basis for my bet this week.

Robert Thornton has taken to Premier League darts like a duck to water. He has been nothing shorten of outstanding in posting a win over Andy Hamilton and a draw last week against van Gerwen. In truth he should have beaten Hamilton by more than the 7-5 margin but I think he may have taken his foot off the pedal after racing into a 5-1 lead.

Despite a spirited fightback from The Hammer Thornton got the job done and continued his good form last week against van Gerwen. Consistently hitting big scores when needed and ruthless on his doubles (especially tops) I cannot see anything but a victory tonight against Wes Newton who despite some decent darts has looked a little nervous in his debut season and has thrown too many missed doubles. Thornton a banker bet this week.

Wade v Lewis sees two out of players trying to register a much needed win, Whitlock can give Taylor a scare but ultimately The Power should prove too good. The battle of the Dutch darting giants is another too close to call and a draw is probably the shout whilst Gary Anderson should probably just edge the night’s final encounter against Andy Hamilton.
