Rayner cut to 5/2 from 3/1 following speech to Labour activists

Star Sports have reported further movement in their next Labour leader market, with Angela Rayner strengthening her position at the head of the betting.

Rayner, who was already favourite at 3/1 to replace Keir Starmer, has now shortened into 5/2 following her address to Labour’s Mainstream group in Liverpool, leaving her well clear of nearest rival Wes Streeting at 6/1.

The former Deputy Prime Minister has also seen support in the next Prime Minister market, where she has been cut into 3/1 from 7/2 and now leads the betting ahead of Ed Miliband, Nigel Farage and Wes Streeting, who are all priced at 8/1.

Elsewhere, Star Sports make Keir Starmer a 2/5 chance to stand down as Labour leader in 2026, while he is 11/10 to no longer be Prime Minister by 1st July this year.

William Kedjanyi, Political Betting Analyst at Star Sports, said: “Angela Rayner launched into a stinging critique of the current Labour leadership in her address to Labour’s Mainstream group in Liverpool this week, which has ignited speculation that she may be thinking of challenging Keir Starmer’s position as leader of the party.

“We’ve cut the former Labour deputy leader into 5/2 from 3/1 to be the next Labour Party leader, while she is now also 3/1 from 7/2 to be the next Prime Minister.

“Rayner is a clear-cut favourite in both markets, and well ahead of the likes of Wes Streeting, Ed Miliband and Nigel Farage in the betting to be next Prime Minister.

“With Starmer facing pressure from all sides, we make the current PM a 2/5 chance to depart as Labour leader this year, while it’s 11/10 he is no longer leading the country on 1st July.”
