Newsom 7/2 from 4/1 supplants JD Vance (4/1) as favourite

Star Sports have reported a significant shift at the top of their next US President market, with Gavin Newsom moving into favouritism.

Newsom has shortened into 7/2 from 4/1 to become the new market leader, overtaking Republican Vice President JD Vance, who is now second favourite at 4/1.

Marco Rubio sits just behind the front two at 6/1, while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a 16/1 chance to be the next President of the United States.

It marks the first time since August 2024 that a Democrat has been favourite to win the presidency.

In the party nomination markets, Newsom is 7/4 to be the Democrat nominee in 2028 ahead of Ocasio-Cortez at 7/1, while Vance leads the Republican market at 11/8 with Rubio next at 9/4.

William Kedjanyi, Political Betting Analyst at Star Sports, said: “We’ve seen an interesting move at the top of our next US President market, with Democrat Gavin Newsom shortening into 7/2 to become the outright favourite, ahead of JD Vance (4/1) for the first time since Donald Trump took office in 2024.

“The current Governor of California has shortened from 4/1, marking the first time a Democrat has been favourite to be the next POTUS since Kamala Harris in August 2024, and the move comes amid a backdrop of growing criticism of the Trump-led US involvement in the Middle East.

“Newsom leads second favorite JD Vance in an average of head to head polls by 4.6%, and as the Democrats attempt to wrestle back control of the House of Representatives in November’s midterm elections, they are 4/6 favourites to return to the White House in 2028.”
