PREVIEW: Cheltenham Day One
[dropcap]P[/dropcap]leasing result from Old Trafford last night with the ‘overs’ being landed – just.
But frankly enough of football, it’s all about Cheltenham this week and quite rightly so.
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been watching the clock ticking down on the Star Sports web site and at the time of writing we’re just 3 hours 36 minutes and 24 seconds away from take off.
If you haven’t checked out the incredible Ruby Tuesday offer this week – check it out – it’s the lead story on the web site.
Put simply if you are considering backing (and not many people WON’T be)…..
UN DE SCEAUX (Arkle)
FAUGHEEN (Champion Hurdle)
ANNIE POWER (Mares Hurdle)
Then it’s a money back insurance offer that you have to grab. Basically, you get your money back if any you finish outside the first three if you back one of the above (up to £200) – check the offer page for full details.
Also – still time to check out the Cheltenham Preview Videos in the Cheltenham part of the site.
And if you are on course today – don’t forget to pop by and say hello at the Star Sports pitch in the main ring.
Anyway, down to business. I’m keeping things simple with the preview selection and going for Faugheen in the Champion Hurdle. Anything over evens is value in my book so I am snapping up the 11/10.
Unbeaten in eight starts, including the Neptune last season, he really does look the real deal. He sauntered to a Grade 1 success when last seen at Kempton on Boxing Day and whilst it’s fair to argue that he has yet to face seasoned Grade 1 performers you can’t deny his potential and I fully expect him to step up to the mark.
Ruby Walsh selected him over Hurricane Fly and I’m not sure that was a choice that was as easy as everyone seems to imply. The Fly will run his race and bring the house down if he wins this for a third time.
But the machine will be fired up and Faugheen is that machine.
