STAR DARTS PREVIEW: Premier League Darts – Week Seven

We have another week of Premier League Darts to look forward to this week and tonight it is heading to Dublin! writes EMILY WALLIS.

Last week was a brilliant watch and great for my tipping as Jonny Clayton, tipped at 8/1 earlier in the day, won the night and is also the first player to have two nightly wins. Clayton to have two or more nightly wins was one of my outright selections so it’s brilliant to have that in and the 40/1 on him outright is looking very big now!

He was ultra consistent once again which has been the key for him and he is now seven points clear at the top of the of the table!

Luke Littler sits second, he came through an epic game with Gerwyn Price in his quarter-final last week which went down to the wire and was a thrilling watch.

It was Luke Humphries though in their semi-final who finally got his first win over Littler since the Premier League final last year and gained some much needed points despite being beaten comfortably by Clayton in the final.

The table is looking very open with Price, van Veen and Humphries all just two points behind Littler and van Gerwen just one point behind them and Stephen Bunting close enough as well.

For the remaining player, Josh Rock, the struggle continues as he is still yet to win a game and pick up any points.

There’s still plenty of weeks left so nothing is certain, but we are approaching the halfway point of the league phase so time will soon start running out.

Dublin is probably still feeling the effects of St Patricks Day but I’m sure will be ready and raring to go for the darts, it should be a great and lively night!

Quarter-final matches

Michael van Gerwen – BYE

Stephen Bunting v Luke Littler

Josh Rock v Gerwyn Price

Jonny Clayton v Luke Humphries

As always, there are some interesting matches to look forward to in the quarter-finals including a repeat of last week’s final.

Unfortunately, Gian van Veen has had to withdraw from this week due to illness so Michael van Gerwen receives a bye into the semi-finals.

Stephen Bunting v Luke Littler

Littler has quickly gotten himself into a good position in the table after a very slow start and I think that will continue this week.

Bunting is more than capable of beating him and has shown that, but he hasn’t been at his brilliant best since winning the night a few weeks ago and seems quite all or nothing in the Premier League, hence why he is sitting second from bottom of the table despite having that nightly win.

I’m not sure Littler will come out flying as much as he did against Price last week, but I think he’ll do enough to book his spot in the semi-finals.

Josh Rock v Gerwyn Price

As mentioned, Josh Rock has been finding his debut Premier League campaign a struggle and is yet to pick up a win or any points. Last week would have been a blow losing to Bunting as it increased the gap between him and Bunting just above him in the table.

Gerwyn Price is playing very well so I think the losing run for Rock will continue.

Price played brilliant in his quarter-final match against Littler last week despite losing in the last leg decider and also made the final of the Euro Tour at the weekend.

I think Price will reach another semi-final at least tonight and keep himself in a good position on the table.

Jonny Clayton v Luke Humphries

This is a repeat of last week’s final and despite Clayton hobbling around the stage all night, he played very well and it was a comfortable 6-1 win for him.

It was a positive night for Humphries though gaining some needed points but he is still sitting just outside of the top four and will want to change that.

This game is going to be a lot closer than the 6-1 result in the final last week. However, with Clayton’s very good record against Humphries, I’m going to stick with him to put another win on the board.

Looking at the two halves of the draw, I think Littler looks very good to make the final this evening. I also think Price has come into some really good form and if he beats Rock, he’ll have a tricky semi-final, but he’s certainly playing well enough to fill the other final spot.
