STAR FOOTBALL ANTE-POST PREVIEW: Serie A 2026/27

As part of our build-up to the new season, JOE CITRONE takes a look at Serie A 2026/27 and picks out a recommended starsports.bet selection.

Inter Milan head into the new Serie A season as favourites, and it’s hard to argue with that, writes JOE CITRONE.

They comfortably won the title by 11 points last season, and while there have been a few departures, Cristian Chivu still has a squad packed with quality. John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Djed Spence have all arrived, while Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram remain the main men up front.

There’s always a risk that a title-winning side loses a little hunger, but Inter look strong enough to avoid that.

Juventus are the obvious danger. Luciano Spalletti is now in charge and they’ve brought in Randal Kolo Muani and Jhon Lucumi, among others. There’s plenty to like, but Juve still need to prove they can put together a consistent title challenge over 38 games.

Napoli could be the biggest threat. Although I’m not fully convinced by Massimiliano Allegri as Antonio Conte’s replacement, he has been handed a squad with quality like Kevin De Bruyne, Rasmus Hojlund and Noa Lang.

AC Milan are another interesting one. Ruben Amorim has taken over, looking to put his disappointing spell at Manchester United behind him, and Goncalo Ramos is the headline addition, but there’s a fair bit of rebuilding to do after missing out on the Champions League last term.

Roma could surprise a few people. Gian Piero Gasperini may be a volatile character, proved by his public falling out with one of football’s nice guys, Claudio Ranieri, last season, but he does know exactly what he wants from his teams and the additions of Santiago Castro and Nahuel Molina give him more to work with.

They’re capable of pushing the top four, but a title challenge feels a stretch.

And then there’s Como. They’re becoming increasingly difficult to ignore after finishing fourth last season, with Cesc Fabregas continuing to build something very exciting. Nico Paz has stayed, while Trevoh Chalobah has arrived, but Champions League football could make it difficult to repeat that domestic finish.

For me, though, Inter remain the team to beat. The challengers may have improved, but none have done enough to convince me they can close the gap.
