STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Fri: Fulham v Wolves

European-chasing Fulham host relegation-battling Wolves on Friday night with both sides determined to add more points to their tally.

Despite starting as one of the favourites to go down, Fulham have shocked all the doubters this season under Marco Silva. An impressive summer of recruitment bringing in European level quality in Joao Palhinha, the former Sporting CP midfielder whose steel and gutsy defending has made him one of the signings of the season so far.

With Bernd Leno thriving in goal, Willian refinding his best form, and other quality signings like Kevin Mbabu having an excellent campaign, Fulham are in a great position to not just stay up, but also make a run at European competition along with their FA Cup bid.

Alexander Mitrovic is also enjoying his best goalscoring season in the Premier League, with 11 in 19 appearances.

Marco Silva has been a revelation in West London, with his aggressive front foot playing style bringing impressive results, including wins against Brighton, Brentford and Chelsea at Craven Cottage.

Despite a huge summer spending spree, Wolverhampton Wanderers had an awful start to the season under Bruno Lage then caretaker Steve Davis. However, since the World Cup and the appointment of former Spain boss Julen Lopetegui, Wolves  have begun an ascent up the table and towards safety.

A lack of goals has held Wolves back for several seasons and they’ve also struggled during this campaign.

They signed 6’7 Austrian striker Sasa Kaladjzic – who then got a season ending injury – forcing them into bringing in 34-year-old Diego Costa on a free transfer. Despite a £30 million fee, Goncalo Guedes has scored once all season, which then led to a loan for Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid in January – and there are no goals for him so far either, despite a £45m obligation to buy in the summer.

Since Lopetegui arrived things have improved, with four wins, three losses and two draws. The defensive issues that beset the side under Lage have been improved, although they’re still yet to really find their attacking form, leaving them susceptible to Fulham’s attacking threat – with or without Mitrovic, as he may miss the clash due to a hamstring injury.

Fulham are worthy favourites at 13/10 with starsports.bet and are favoured at the match odds but keeping these two sides’ 0-0 in August in mind – as well as Mitrovic’s potential absence – it could be worth keeping under 2.5 goals onside too.
