STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Mon: Everton v Leeds

The latest Premier League gameweek ends with an intriguing Monday Night Football fixture as Everton host Leeds, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.

David Moyes and the Toffees will be turning up in a good mood, having pulled off a shock win at Aston Villa last week thanks to Thierno Barry’s excellent finish and a brilliant defensive effort from Nathan Patterson, Vitalii Mykolenko, James Tarkowski and Jake O’Brien (including a brilliant showing from Jordan Pickford in goal).

That was a much-needed turnaround after a frustrating run of results that included defeat to Brentford, a draw against bottom-placed Wolves, and a third-round exit on penalties to Sunderland in the FA Cup, all of which have come at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Whilst a long injury list – one which now crucially has Jack Grealish, who has suffered a stress fracture in his foot – impacted them over December and early January, a strong start at their new home has petered out.

The travelling toffees will be pleased that Moyes’ men have lost just one of their last six on the road and registered clean sheets in five of those games, although if Everton are to make a potential bid for European glory – and the league table continues to be so tight it’s a possibility – they’ll want to improve in front of their own fans. It’s a bonus for the hosts that Thierno Barry –  ? to find the net with starsports.bet tonight – has found a scoring touch of some kind with three goals in his last four league games.

The team news is also looking brighter now; Idrissa Gana Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye are back from Afcon and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jarrad Branthwaite and Charly Alcaraz have returned to training.

Leeds began their return to the Premier League in style when dominating Everton at Elland Road but things weren’t looking so good afterwards, with a return straight to the Championship on the cards until Daniel Farke changed formation half-time when 2-0 down to Manchester City in late November, going with two forwards upfront.

Since then, they’ve lost just one of their last 10 games in all competitions, that being a dramatic 4-3 defeat at Newcastle (who are rock solid at St James’ Park) where the hosts scored twice in stoppage time to seal the win.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – ? to score with starsports.bet this evening – is showing the form he was once capable of at Everton, whilst Ao Tanaka and Brenden Aarsonson have also been forward threats for the visitors, who are five points clear of 18th-place West Ham with tonight’s game in hand. They’ve also improved defensively, giving up only seven and eight shots at Brentford and Sunderland in 1-1 draws, whilst they also managed to keep Liverpool scoreless to boot.

Heading to Everton in great form with a healthy teamsheet (only left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson and Anton Stach are doubts), Leeds have plenty to be positive about and they could take some stopping here against an Everton side that’s shorn of its best playmaker in Grealish.

Finding a way past the Toffees’ rearguard is a tough tas,k but visiting teams have scored in the last three games here and Leeds are worth supporting in the draw no bet markets with starsports.bet.
