STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Mon: Liverpool v Everton

Sean Dyche has only been in the Everton job a couple of weeks, but he has already got a Merseyside Derby to contend with as his side lock horns with old rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.

The Dyche era got off to an absolute flier last week with the former Burnley boss making an immediate impact by guiding Everton, who looked in freefall prior to his arrival, to a 1-0 victory over league leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park.

It was James Tarkowski, a stalwart in Dyche’s Burnley defence for many years, who grabbed that crucial goal that, not only got Dyche his first win on the board, but also massively boosted their chances of Premier League survival.

Despite Liverpool not enjoying the best of seasons, this will be a tough challenge for Everton, especially as their record against the Reds in recent years is far from good with the Toffees having won only one of their last 22 league games at Anfield.

They will be taking on the challenge without main striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as well who hobbled off in that 1-0 win over Arsenal and is highly unlikely to be fit for this clash against Liverpool on Monday night.

Many were suggesting that areas of Liverpool’s squad, particularly the midfield area, needed a refresh in the summer and were critical of the Reds’ reluctance to do so, but I don’t think anybody saw the huge drop-off that Jurgen Klopp’s side have suffered coming.

Liverpool have slipped from title contenders last term to barely in the conversation for top-four this season with none of their summer additions, such as Darwin Nunez and Arthur, managing to hit the ground running.

Although the likelihood of retaining their place in the Champions League looks remote now, they will still be motivated by the prospect of getting one over on Everton once again and putting a dent in their survival bid.

Dyche has not been with Everton long but, if last weekend is anything to go by, he has got his side a lot more organised and motivated than they were under Frank Lampard. Inevitably, they will look to frustrate Liverpool and I can see this being a cagey affair.

The bets that I am highlighting here is under 2.5 goals at 21/20 and a double chance of Everton-draw with

🗣️ Trader’s view: “I’d imagine Dyche will set Everton up to frustrate Liverpool. A low-scoring Liverpool win would be my prediction, possibly 1-0”
