STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Mon: Portsmouth v Bolton

In a top-of-the-table clash, which could have huge implications in the race for the League One title come the end of the season, Bolton Wanderers travel to Fratton Park to face-off with Portsmouth on Monday night.

Both of these sides have enjoyed a very strong start to their League One campaign and, although it’s still fairly early days in the season, look like they are going to be up there in the promotion season.

As things stand, Portsmouth sit at the top of the table with 42 points from 19 games whereas Bolton are three points behind with 39 points from 18 matches.

This match, the first time these two sides have met this season, could have huge implications on the race for promotion and both managers will be well aware of that.

John Mousinho, who is thriving in his first ever managerial role with Portsmouth, will be hoping to lead his side to their third consecutive victory despite a mounting list of injuries which include players such as Regan Poole and star striker Colby Bishop.

Once again, Ian Evatt has Bolton Wanderers fighting at the top-end of the table and playing attacking, front-foot, exciting football to go with it.

In Wanderers’ last League One outing, they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at Oxford United, bringing to an end their superb run of consecutive victories, although did follow that up with an emphatic 5-1 win over Harrogate Town in the FA Cup.

Most likely to operate in a 3-5-2 system, one of Bolton’s main strengths will be their flying wing-backs Jack Iredale and Josh Dacres-Cogley. If they can find joy on Monday night, the game will swing massively in their favour but Pompey will be well aware that is something they need to nullify.

I hate to sit on the fence, but it is very difficult to separate these two sides at this moment in time and, with so much riding on this game, it is easy to see both sides being a little cagey and cancelling each other out. I am backing a draw at 23/10 with starsports.bet.
