STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Mon: Salford v MK Dons

Salford City boss Karl Robinson comes up against his former club on Monday night as the League Two side look to kickstart their season with a clash against MK Dons at the Peninsula Stadium, writes JOE CITRONE.

As has been typical for Karl Robinson teams over the years, it’s been a slow start to the season for Salford who, at the time of writing, have drawn two and lost one of their opening three League Two fixtures.

The Ammies were very busy on transfer deadline day, though, adding another four players to their squad, including tricky winger Hakeeb Adelakun, who was so influential to Doncaster Rovers’ play-off push last term.

MK Dons have also stumbled out of the blocks this season, but did manage to pick up a morale-boosting first league win of the season against Carlisle United in their most recent outing.

Goals from Callum Hendry, Alex Gilbey and Ellis Harrison sealed a much-needed victory for Mike Williamson’s side and lifted MK above their Monday night opponents in the League Two table.

The Dons will now be hoping, given the expectation around them this season, that that victory will enable them to click into gear and will be looking to back up that win over Carlisle with their first away victory of the campaign on Monday night.

Salford unquestionably elevated their squad in the final few days of the transfer window with some impressive additions, but it will take some time to integrate those new recruits into the side and get them up to speed and I expect MK to take advantage of that on Monday.

At 23/20 with starsports.bet, I am backing an away win in this one.
