STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Sat: Manchester United v Tottenham
The new manager bounce is an often talked about phenomenon in football and Manchester United have found a new lease of life since Michael Carrick was appointed as interim manager, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.
Since his return – which started in incredible style with a 2-0 defeat of Manchester City in the Derby at Old Trafford – The Red Devils, reverting back to a 4-2-3-1 formation that appears to have helped bring about rapid improvement, beat City, went to Arsenal and took three points from the Emirates, and landed another thriller with a ‘Fergie Time’ winner from Benjamin Sesko against Fulham last weekend.
They’ve shown resilience to come back from behind against Arsenal and Fulham, and with the now returned Kobbie Mainoo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and even Casemiro having a new lease of life to boot, the immediate future looks bright for United, who of course are seeing Bruno Fernandes thrive along with the upturn in form. Last weekend’s match-winner Sesko, who has four goals in 205 minutes, is with starsports.bet.

Tottenham have endured some troubles this season under Thoams Tuchel to say the least, but there has been a bright spot for them in the return of Dominic Solanke, back from a long injury layoff this year. He’s scored four goals since coming back (you can back him at for a fifth with starsports.bet) and Spurs have won twice and drawn twice in that run, including a win at Eintracht Frankfurt to seal a top eight place in the Champions League and a comeback from 2-0 down against Manchester City to boot.
That improvement could cause potential issues for United– assuming that we see them hit the levels of the second half, and also their win in Germany – and whilst United have improved rapidly under Carrick, they are still vulnerable at the back.
City weren’t able to raise a gallop at Old Trafford but they’ve conceded twice in each game since and only five Premier League teams have conceded more than United’s 36 goals this season, with four of those clubs currently in the bottom five.
Tottenham’s strong away record – only Arsenal and Aston Villa have managed more away wins than Spurs – is a slight put off from backing United, and the best way to have both sides onside maybe goals. 8/15 about both teams to score is fair enough value but Over 3.5 goals is a slightly bigger price with starsports.bet and has every chance of landing given the way United have been approaching their games.
