STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Sun: Liverpool v Chelsea

After a third international break of the season, we have a huge Super Sunday clash with Liverpool hosting Chelsea at Anfield, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.

Arne Slot has huge shoes to fill after replacing Jurgen Klopp, but apart from a 1-0 blip at home to Nottingham Forest they’ve been flawless, winning all of their other Premier League fixtures, both their Champions League games and thumping West Ham 5-1 in the EFL Cup for good measure.

Reds will be very pleased to see the defensive resilience that the Reds have shown so far this season, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate making for a very solid defensive pairing (conceded just two goals) whilst in midfield Ryan Gravenberch has had a magnificent start to the campaign alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. In attack, Liverpool are as good as ever with Mo Salah ( ? to get on the scoresheet today), Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota all firing.

Enzo Maresca is also in the spotlight this season – inhering a Chelsea side with plenty of chaos behind the scenes – but he’ll be pleased with his start, with the Blues sitting in fourth place, in the fourth round of the EFL Cup, and also amongst the early season favourites for the Europa Conference League.

We’ve also seen signs that they’re finding their best in attack. Cole Palmer – ? to get on the scoresheet here – has already delivered masterclasses against Wolves and Brighton, Noni Madueke has five goals in all competitions this season, Nicolas Jackson has seven goals and assists this season whilst bringing in Jadon Sancho on a loan deal has proven to be a masterstroke so far, with three assists in four games and the man of the match award against Bournemouth.

Whilst Chelsea have found their attacking rhythm, there’s still work to do defensively. They’ve kept just two clean sheets this season in the Premier League and have just four this season, with two of them coming against Servette and Barrow, and matters won’t be helped by the fact Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana, both of whom have started every league game, are suspended here.

This will be a step up in class for both sides – both have faced just one of last season’s top eight clubs so far – and we should learn plenty about them here. Home advantage and Chelsea’s defensive absences give Liverpool the advantage on paper here, although ? with starsports.bet is too short to get seriously involved with.

Based on the form of both teams this season it would be no surprise if this was an eventful clash. There have been 52 cards in Liverpool’s games this season and 49 games for Chelsea’s, which is still 35 across six league games excluding a ridiculous 14 card game at Bournemouth. In what’s sure to be an important clash it wouldn’t be a surprise if we saw some more, and Chelsea’s defenders are sure to be tested.

With both Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana suspended Levi Colwill is sure to have a lot of work on the left-hand side, and ? about him being booked could look big given the ability Liverpool have. Renato Veiga looks set for a start, and with two yellow cards already (albeit one against Bournemouth) he is of interest to find the referee’s book as well.
