STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Sun: Newcastle v Man Utd

Both Newcastle United and Manchester United are aiming for a place in the top-four this season and the two sides lock horns at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon in what could end up being a pivotal clash.

Newcastle will, of course, be seeking revenge after Eddie Howe’s side were defeated 2-0 by Sunday’s opponents in the EFL Cup final in February thanks to goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.

That defeat came at a tricky time in Newcastle’s otherwise very successful season, but the Magpies have since recovered; defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest in their last two Premier League outings.

They currently sit in 5th-place in the Premier League but, importantly, have two games in hand on Tottenham Hotspur who occupy the final Champions League spot.

Frustratingly for Howe, a few of his players have come back from international breaks with knocks. Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Allan Saint-Maximin and Anthony Gordon all picked up problems whilst away with their countries and are doubts for this encounter.

Manchester United will also be sweating other the fitness over one of their key players after Marcus Rashford was forced to withdraw from the England squad in the most recent international break.

The England forward has been in sensational form for the Red Devils this season, already scoring 27 goals in all competitions so far, and is a crucial reason for the progress that Manchester United have made this season under Erik Ten Hag.

United sit in third-place in the Premier League standings. Although they have flirted with the title race at certain stages of the season, the target now for Ten Hag’s men is just consolidating their place in the top-four and making sure of a return to the Champions League next season.

Of course, this won’t be an easy match for United with Newcastle enjoying a fantastic season and often proving difficult to beat this term, but I fancy them to get a result in this one and the odds of 19/10 with look appealing.
