STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Sun: Premier League Final Day
The final day of the Premier League season has produced much drama in the past, with titles and survival going down to the wire, but this year the only jeopardy is provided by what could be a fascinating five-way fight for Champions League football, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.
Before the action begins, there are just three points separating Manchester City in third and Nottingham Forest in seventh. Man City (away at Fulham), Newcastle (home at Everton) and Chelsea (away at Nottingham Forest) have matters in their own hands. A win for any of these teams on Sunday and they will be in the Champions League next season.

Aston Villa (away at Manchester United) and Nottingham Forest (home against Chelsea) are still in the hunt, although they will be praying that Fulham and Everton can upset the odds to let them in.
Manchester City won’t look back on this season fondly, but they have finished the season much more strongly than they’ve started it and can get the job done at Fulham. Pep Guardiola’s men were unlucky in the FA Cup final and bounced back impressively against Bournemouth when a 3-1 score flattered them if anything.
They could have been given an easier final day assignment but City – bar a drab 0-0 draw at Southampton when they were too slow to introduce real width – have looked more like the side that won four Premier League titles, and they can have too much firepower for Fulham.
Newcastle can also book their place in the Champions League with a comprehensive victory over Everton. Defeat against Arsenal would have stung – Newcastle had the better of things before Declan Rice’s screamer, with David Raya making fine saves from Bruno Guimaraes, Harvey Barnes, Dan Burn and Sven Botman – but they have finished the season strongly apart from dropped points at Aston Villa and Brighton and they should have too much for Everton.
The Toffees signed off their time at Goodison Park with a win over Southampton but are 21 points behind the Magpies and thirteenth in the away table – Newcastle, with nine wins in their last 11 home league games, are sixth. Take them to pass a one-goal handicap with starsports.bet.
Aston Villa may not reach the Champions League but there will be no lack of motivation for Unai Emery’s men and they make huge appeal to beat Manchester United.
Reuben Amorim’s reds offered little in a low quality Europa League final and the physical turnaround and emotional hangover will be hard to overcome against a rested and motivated Aston Villa side who are 27 points clear of their hosts, who also played a strong side the Friday before at Chelsea and were beaten 1-0. starsports.bet is more than fair before one takes into account the Europa League final hangover.
Brighton are 4/7 to win at Spurs – which is fair even on domestic form before the celebrations of their Europa League triumph – so combining a Brighton win with goals or a high shot count for the visitors could well be value. Brighton and Over 1.5 goals is 8/11 with starsports.bet which is more than fair, whilst it’s had to separate Wolves and Brentford at this stage.
The Premier League final day has often produced many goal packed games – at least six of the final ten games have seen both teams to score, over 2.5 goals, or both in the last three years – and an accumulator with combinations of BTTS and Over 2.5 could give punters a serious run for their money today.
