STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Tue: Inter Milan v Arsenal
There’s a top of the table clash as Inter Milan face Arsenal at the San Siro this evening, although this may not be an enthralling Champions League clash, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.
Inter Milan lead Serie A by three points whilst Arsenal are seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, but this is a more urgent game for the hosts – Inter are currently going straight through to the last 16, but they have a tough game at Borussia Dortmund (currently tenth) to end their league phase and are one of a host of clubs separated by a handful of points.
Arsenal have won all six of their group games, and Mikel Arteta would be wise to rest plenty of players with bottom club Kaimat Alarty set to visit the Emirates at the end of the month, whilst a massive game against Manchester United looms on Sunday in the Premier League.
Last season, when the pair met, Champions League runners-up Inter got the better of a pretty dour encounter 1-0 here, and a similar sort of game wouldn’t surprise. Christian Chivu’s men have kept their place at the Top of Serie A with back-to-back 1-0 wins against Leece and Udinese and they’ve conceded only four goals in their last eight Serie A games, with two of them coming against fellow title challengers Napoli.
They’ve also kept things tight in the Champions League, with only four goals conceded, an impressive job considering how tired they were after a gutting end to last season and a difficult summer, including a disappointing Club World Cup following Christian Chivu’s appointment after their 5-0 loss to PSG in the final.
Inter’s expected goals against tally (4.9) is the second best in the competition, behind only Arsenal, and the Gunners will need to improve their attack if they’re to find a way past Yann Sommer in goal, and defenders Manuel Akanji, Alessandro Bastoni, and Federico di Marco.

The Gunners extended their advantage in the title race despite a frustrating 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest, when they had the better of the chances but didn’t get a shot on target in the first half, with the decision to rest first-choice wingers Leandro Trossard and Saka backfiring.
Viktor Gyokeres is fast becoming a disappointment – a return to fitness for Kai Havertz couldn’t come soon enough – Martin Odegaard has struggled to create chances recently and a lack of minuities for Eberechi Eze has frustrated some supporters, so whilst Arsenal are still in a fine position with a seven point lead at the head of the table, an advantage in their EFL Cup semi-final, knockout football pretty much guaranteed in Europe, a change is needed going forward.
It remains to be seen what side Arteta puts out here, given the circumstances, but a tight game wouldn’t surprise here. Inter have conceded precious little in all competitions this season whilst Bayern Munich are the only team to score against the Gunners, who are struggling to create open-play chances, in Europe so far, and under 2.5 goals looks a strong play with starsports.bet.
The draw is also slightly overpriced at 11/5 of the match options.
