STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Tue: Manchester City v Feyenoord
Just what is happening to Manchester City? asks WILLIAM KEDJANYI.
The four-time Premier League Champions had been moving along just fine a month ago, with no defeats in all competitions, but are now reeling from their fifth loss in a row, a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Tottenham – at the Etihad, no less.
There have been many different reasons given for their slump – the absence of key man Rodri, a number of key injuries, the declining pace of Kyle Walker, a lack of legs in an midfield with players not at their peak, and an overreliance on (despite his brilliance) Erling Haaland – but what’s undeniable is that for perhaps the first time since Guardiola took over, City are in genuine crisis.
The stats make it clear. City’s current run represents the longest losing streak of Guardiola’s managerial career, and their worst since 2006 under Stuart Pearce, and this is the first time City have lost three successive Premier League games under Guardiola, who has never previously lost a home league game by four goals in his managerial career. As it goes without saying, Saturday’s reverse is City’s heaviest defeat at Etihad Stadium too.
Data tells us that City are being hit on the counter-attack more than any other season with Guardiola at the helm – and facing much more defensive pressure, something related to the fact there’s been a midfield drop off too. Ilkay Gundogan, now 34, is not the same player he was when he left City and Bernardo Silva has also fallen short of his metronomic heights too.

⭐️ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐️
It feels remarkable to be writing that there’s a good time to visit Manchester City but Feyenoord will probably never have a better chance. Brian Priske’s side – who are just in the play-off spots at the moment – have bounced back from a 3-1 defeat at Salzburg on Matchday 4 with Eredivisie wins over Almere City (4-1) and Heerenveen (3-0), making it six victories from seven in the Dutch top flight.
Their Champions League form has been mixed – thumping defeats at home to Leverkusen (4-0) and RB Salzburg (3-1) have been matched with wins at Girona (3-2) and Benfica (3-1) – and despite a long injury list (eight players are either out or suspended), they definitely carry a goal threat.
The visitors are enjoying a fine away run – they’re unbeaten in their last 21 away from home and have score 2.6 goals a game during that spell – and they will fancy their chances if City don’t improve dramatically for the return of Kevin de Bruyne to midfield tonight.
It’s impossible to put anyone off big prices about Feyenoord in a range of markets with starsports.bet and if you want to oppose city, it’s worth looking to the handicaps, but a feature of their nightmare run has been goals. Both teams have scored in 13 of City’s 19 games this season, and three of the exceptions have come against Slovan Bratislava, Sparta Prague and Southampton, making the for both teams hitting the net tonight the most appealing option.
