STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Tues: Burnley v Oxford
After back-to-back 0-0 draws, promotion-chasing Burnley need to get back to winning ways when Oxford United visit Turf Moor on Tuesday night, writes JOE CITRONE.
As expected, Burnley are challenging right at the top of the league with the likes of Sheffield United and Leeds United, but have faced criticism from many – including some of their own fanbase – over their style of play.
Their defensive record is incredible, conceding just nine goals in 30 Championship fixtures this season, but that has often come at the sacrifice of any creativity, ingenuity, or entertainment in the final third.
If the Clarets are to sneak into the top-two and win automatic-promotion straight back to the Premier League this season, manager Scott Parker will need to find more of a balancing act and unlock some of Burnley’s attacking potential.
He will be hoping that the arrival of winger Marcus Edwards, an eye-catching loan signing from Sporting Lisbon, will be able to offer a different dimension in the attacking third for his side.

⭐️ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐️
Oxford United look doomed to immediate relegation back to League One when they surprisingly sacked popular boss Des Buckingham in December, but under the stewardship of experienced operator Gary Rowett, United now find themselves 10 points clear of the dreaded drop-zone.
The U’s are now nine unbeaten in the league under Rowett; which included an impressive 1-0 win over play-off chasing Blackburn Rovers a couple of weeks ago and important victories over Millwall and Luton Town.
Players who looked completely lost under the previous regime like Will Vaulks and Przemyslaw Placheta now appear completely revitalised and full of confidence under Rowett’s leadership.
A trip to Burnley on Tuesday night, though, who are yet to lose a league game at Turf Moor this season, is unquestionably the biggest threat to that unbeaten record that they have had so far.
As we know, Burnley’s defensive record is their biggest strength and it will be a tough ask for Oxford to breach that resilient backline on Tuesday.
After two consecutive draws, Burnley know they need to win this game – and I think they will – which makes a home victory and under 2.5 goals look appealing at 19/10 with starsports.bet.
