STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Tues: Chelsea v Tottenham

It’s tin hat time as Tottenham travel to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday for the latest edition of one of the most heated fixtures in the Premier League, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.

And the stakes couldn’t be higher for the visitors, who know that a point from either of their last two games will all but guarantee Premier League survival. However, Spurs have found it incredibly difficult to get anything from this fixture, so much so that the north Londoners have won just one of their last 35 visits to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will be buoyed by the news that Xabi Alonso is taking over at the end of the season but elsewhere, good news is thin on the ground. They’ve won just two of their last 12 matches in all competitions and they haven’t scored more than one goal in a Premier League game since the first week in March.

As for Spurs, results (and performances) have improved since De Zerbi arrived but the bar could hardly have been lower. They missed a big chance to all but secure survival by dropping points against Leeds, a game they started well but got progressively worse, managing just a single shot on target in the second half.

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐

This fixture always produces cards, and there is a cherry on top of the icing on this particular cake: tonight’s referee Stuart Attwell loves to dish out cards – he’s averaging 4.7 cards per game in his 24 league games this season. Attwell has issued 4+ cards in 18 of those 24 and 5+ cards in 16 games.

Furthermore, Chelsea and Tottenham are the two most carded teams in the Premier League, while the reverse fixture in November had six cards, and this fixture last year produced a whopping 10 yellow cards.

So, cards look the safest play in what is likely to be a low-scoring fixture. The 17/20 with starsports.bet about Over 5.5 cards looks a great option, but I wouldn’t put anyone off taking the 3/1 about Attwell brandishing a red at some point.
