EURO 2024 QUALIFYING

STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Tues: England v Italy

England are within touching distance of EURO 2024 qualification, but first must overcome Italy at Wembley Stadium; two years after the two nations did battle in that very stadium in the final of EURO 2020.

It certainly wasn’t a classic, but England did manage to overcome Australia in an international friendly match at Wembley just a few days ago with Ollie Watkins, leading the line following an impressive run of form for Aston Villa, scoring the crucial goal in a 1-0 victory.

Again, criticisms persist over Gareth Southgate’s style of play and how good England are to watch at the moment, but they are grinding out victories and that’s what they need to continue doing to make sure they seal a spot at the next European Championship.

Southgate selected an experimental XI against Australia with the likes of Watkins taking the place of Harry Kane up-front, Sam Johnstone coming in for Jordan Pickford and both Lewis Dunk and Fikayo Tomori earning an opportunity in defence.

The likelihood is, you would expect, that Southgate will go back to a more traditional line-up with Pickford, Kane, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham all likely to be recalled to the side.

Italy were rocked recently by the shock resignation of manager Roberto Mancini in August with the ex-Man City boss taking a lucrative offer to take over the Saudi Arabia national team.

Luciano Spalletti is now the man at the helm and took charge of his first game last month; overseeing a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia with Ciro Immobile grabbing the goal for Gli Azzurri.

Italy will be hoping to make strides under Spalletti, who has an excellent record in Serie A, and of course barge in front of England in the queue to qualify for the next European Championship after failing to reach the World Cup in Qatar.

⭐ ENGLAND v ITALY STARSPORTS.BET MARKETS ⭐

I can only really see a tense and cagey affair here that could really go either way but, given his scintillating form in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich, I can see Kane getting on the scoresheet here and a price of 6/5 with starsports.bet for him to score anytime looks appealing.
