STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Tues: Wolves v Liverpool

Wolves’ form has improved since the arrival of Julen Lopetegui and will be hoping to continue the upturn in their fortunes when they welcome an out-of-sorts Liverpool side to Molineux on Tuesday night in an FA Cup replay.

A narrow 1-0 victory over West Ham United at the weekend lifted Wolves out of the bottom-three of the Premier League for the first time since that humbling 4-0 home defeat to Leicester City in October.

There are still hurdles on the horizon that Lopetegui’s side will need to get over, but they are clearly on the upward curve under their Spanish coach and their survival hopes have been significantly boosted since his appointment.

These two sides drew 2-2 in the initial third round meeting earlier this month with a 66th-minute Hwang Hee-chan equaliser sending it to a replay, much to the dismay of Jurgen Klopp who will not have been happy at another fixture being added to their already busy schedule.

Experienced midfielder Joao Moutinho could miss this replay through injury, but new signing Mario Lemina should be able to slot straight into that spot after returning to the Premier League, following spells with Southampton and Fulham, from Nice last week.

Liverpool have not had the best of seasons and there is a feeling that a big rebuild may be on the horizon for Klopp and co as they face the very real prospect of missing out on Champions League football.

Their most recent outing in the Premier League, a 3-0 humbling away to an incisive and clinical Brighton & Hove Albion, exposed all of Liverpool’s problems for all to see; primarily their lack of strength in depth in the midfield area.

Klopp has hinted that those issues are not likely to be directly addressed in this January transfer window so the Liverpool boss will need to maximise what he’s got if the Reds are to stand a chance of climbing into the top-four.

Teenage midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who scored his first senior goal for the club against Aston Villa, has recently been draughted into the first-team to ease the midfield woes but his involvement in this match is in doubt after picking up a hip injury.

Liverpool are, of course, the holders of this competition but retaining that crown might not be especially high up their priority list with Klopp’s men desperate to climb the Premier League table. At 12/5 with starsports.bet, a victory for Wolverhampton Wanderers looks appealing here.
