STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Wed: Bayern Munich v Arsenal

Bayern Munich host Arsenal after a 2-2 first leg as the German club looks to pile even more pressure on Arsenal’s season, writes LEWIS WILLIAMS.

Last week I covered the first leg of this matchup when I fancied Bayern to win at 4/1 and I can’t help but feel robbed after the nonexistent penalty from Gabriel’s handball that was objectively a foul but wasn’t given because according to the referee (and Tuchel), it was a “kids error”. By that logic, I guess everyone should just pick the ball up randomly, right?

⭐ BAYERN MUNICH V ARSENAL STARSPORTS.BET MARKETS ⭐

Arsenal looked to make use of their near decade-long absence from the Champions League with an early polished finish from Saka. However, shortly after Ben White threw away a chance to put the game to bed, Goretzka slipped past the Gunners’ backline as if they were mannequins to assist Gnabry for Munich’s first, and it was a scarily similar run by Sane who seemed to have free reign around the pitch to win a penalty for the inevitable Harry Kane.

My brief remarks about the handball fail to do justice to the drama of the game, and there were plenty of other chances for both teams, not least a woodwork collision from Kingsley Coman who had David Raya beaten on the near post.

Referee Glenn Nyberg rejected Saka’s fall at the feet of Neuer as a penalty and blew the whistle accordingly which ended the match at a draw but that creates a fascinating clash between the two teams on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich certainly had the best chances that day with nearly double the Expected Goals to that of Arsenal and my reasoning for backing them was more of a lay opinion against the Gunners than loving the form of Tuchel’s Munich. Arsenal have failed to impress me in recent weeks and we mustn’t forget that Arteta’s men barely scraped through the previous round against Porto, famously resorting to the saving grace of Wendell and Galeno kindly missing their shots from the spot in a shootout.

It’s not just the Champions League they have to worry about now as the wheels seem to be falling off for the London side, most recently against Aston Villa at 1/4 when they were simply outclassed by Unai Emery’s away side when it mattered most in a 2-0 result that kept Villa’s dreams alive.

VERDICT
The last month has seen some underwhelming performances by Arsenal and for that reason, along with their performance in the first round of this fixture last week, I simply can’t see them winning. The market has chosen the correct favourite here with the German side 3/4 to make the semi-finals but I’m leaning towards a regulation time success here at ? with starsports.bet
