STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Weds: Liverpool v Real Madrid

In a repeat of the 2018 and 2022 finals, Liverpool go head-to-head with Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night in the headline clash of the week, writes JOE CITRONE.

Liverpool have enjoyed a flying start to the season – both in the league and in Europe – with the Reds eight points clear at the top of the Premier League and also unbeaten in their first four Champions League fixtures.

In their most recent outing, Arne Slot’s side showed excellent resilience and fight to come from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 at St Mary’s Stadium with a late Mohamed Salah penalty – who was able to put all the speculation regarding his future behind him – sealing the three points for the visitors.

On the European stage, though, there is no bigger challenge than Real Madrid and Slot’s side must make sure they are at their best to continue their scintillating form when they do battle with Los Blancos on Wednesday night.

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐

You have to go back all the way to 2009, which is eight games ago, to find the last time Liverpool were able to beat Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti will be keen for this side to keep that run going on Wednesday night.

Los Blancos will be looking to respond to a disappointing last outing in Europe, though, where they were beaten 3-1 by AC Milan at the Bernabeu with goals coming from Malick Thiaw, Alvaro Morata and Tijani Reijnders.

The response in the league has been very strong with Madrid hammering Osasuna and Leganes in their last two matches, and will want to bring that into Europe now but a clash with Slot’s Liverpool—in the form they are in—will not be easy.

As for bets, I like the look of over 3.5 goals for this one due to both sides’ immense attacking quality which you can back at 6/5 with starsports.bet.

Also, despite his mixed start to life in Spain, I think Kylian Mbappe will make a splash in this one and therefore like the look of him to score anytime at 19/10 with starsports.bet.
