STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Weds: Tottenham v AC Milan

AC Milan have a slender 1-0 advantage heading into the second-leg of this last-16 clash, but Tottenham will still have belief that they can come back and progress into the next stage of the Champions League.

The rumours swirling around about the future of Spurs manager Antonio Conte, which seem to suggest that his tenure will come to an end upon the conclusion of this season, must not become a distraction for Tottenham as they look to overturn the first-leg defeat in Milan.

They must also bounce back from a desperately disappointing performance and result at the weekend which saw Spurs fall to a 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers thanks to a late goal from former Spurs target Adama Traore.

That dealt a huge blow to their bid to retain their place in the Champions League for next season with Liverpool suddenly looking like the likelier side to snatch fourth-spot and Spurs now drifting out to 2/1 for a top-four finish with

Eric Dier picked up his third yellow card of the Champions League campaign which means the experienced defender will be suspended for this clash, leaving Conte and Cristian Stellini with a conundrum at the back.

After winning Serie A last season, AC Milan have been unable to kick on and put together a strong title defence with Napoli set to take their crown and win their first Scudetto since 1990.

Overall, itโ€™s been a disappointing campaign for Stefano Pioliโ€™s men, but they could ease some of the pain theyโ€™ve suffered in the league if they are able to finish off the job against Spurs and qualify for the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.

Like Spurs though, Milan will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing result at the weekend where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina and dropped out of the top-four in the process.

They will have two key players back available from suspension, though, which will come as a huge boost with Rafael Leao – an exciting forward who may well join the Premier League in the summer – and Rade Krunic set to return to the matchday squad.

However, I feel that, despite the indifferent season they have been having, I fancy Spurs to turn this around in front of a home crowd and I am willing to take the odds-against price of 11/8 for them to overturn the first-leg and qualify for the next round.

AC Milan have a fairly poor disciplinary record in this competition, picking up 17 yellow cards and one red card, so the away side getting the most bookings also looks appealing at even money with
