Wow, that was close to a beautiful big pay day!

Blue Horseshoe loved Sami Valimaki last week at 100/1 and he went right to the wire only to put it out of bounds on the 18th and finish second alone. We’ll take the place, but the taste of that win would have been far sweeter.

The flying finn came agonisingly close to coming from four shots back on the final day to snatch a win for us at any old money last week. He drew level with Jake Knapp but let his momentum slide away with a couple of errant tee shots on the home stretch. That was a little gut wrenching, but having your innards pulled out and laid in front of your on the lounge floor is a side effect of golf betting. I think Valimaki looks superb each-way value here this week. He’s clearly in good form and I’m happy to get on him again at this price in this field.

Andrew Novak – Currently ? with starsports.bet

Novak has been the quiet achiever over the last couple of weeks. He finished tied 8th at the Mexico Open and tied 8th at the Phoenix Open. In both tournaments, he hit the lead at stages, but was pulled back into the field on the Sunday. He is clearly in fine fettle and I’m sure the experience of being in the lead will help him to cope with the situation and keep his nose in front if he gets another chance. He’s an accuracy based player rather than a bomber so this course will play to his strengths. Novak looks tasty each way value considering his recent form which has trended sharply upward.

Adam Svensson – Currently ? with starsports.bet

Svensson has been running hot and cold this year with some very tidy rounds followed by absolute stinkers. I tipped him at the Genesis as I thought he was starting to get rid of the ugly rounds. He backed up my assertions with a very solid display, finishing just outside the place money at triple-figure odds. He’s back this week after skipping Mexico and I think he’s going to continue building nicely and has a real crack at rejoining the winners’ circle in a far less demanding field than the Genesis.
