STAR GOLF PREVIEW Thurs: Rocket Mortgage Classic

The big guns are putting their feet up as the Tour rolls into the Motor City this week.

The Detroit Golf club hosts the Rocket Mortgages Classic again and as per usual it’s a chance for some of the lesser lights to get valuable FedEx Cup ranking points, or maybe even pick up that elusive PGA Tour win. The odd big name is in attendance such as JT, Homa, and defending Champion Tony Finau, but as ever we’ll be seeking out some longer odds value.

Blue Horseshoe Loves:

Cam Davis – Currently ? with
I tipped the tall, talented Aussie win this tournament two years ago at 110/1 and he duly delivered. Unfortunately for me and anyone else who fancies him this week, the market has also come to recognise his quality since then. Davis is almost at odds that I don’t tend to frequent, but I can’t ignore the fact that this course set up well for his excellent long hitting game and I think he’s well placed to pick up his second PGA Tour win back at a course he has a strong affinity for.

Austin Eckroat – Currently ? with
Eckroat sits around the top thirty for accuracy off the tee this season. That sort of stat will definitely be in his favour this week at a heavily tree lined Detroit golf club. Eckroat’s form has continued to impress in 2023 with a bunch of high leaderboard finishes and a near miss on his maiden PGA Tour win. In a field minus many of the top guns, he should be right in this.

Andrew Novak – Currently ? with
Novak nearly clinched the Canadian Open a couple of weeks back at any old money. He continues to fly under the radar somewhat, which is great for his price. Novak’s game is not flashy but his consistent, steady approach should see him out-run his odds again. I really like his each way value in this field.

Harry Hall – Currently ? with
The Englishman went desperately close at the Charles Schwab Challenge a few weeks back. A look at his season shows a string of very decent finishes in 2023 and the benefit that experience in his near miss recently will show Hall, he most definitely has the game to win on tour. I think he looks great each way value this week.
