STAR GOLF PREVIEW Weds: Farmers Insurance Open

✅ A solid result last week with Chris Kirk placing in third at 80/1. We’ll take that all day.

We head down the California Coastal highway to Torey Pines and the Farmers Insurance Open. It’s an early start this week with the PGA Tour giving way on Sunday to the NFL Playoffs. This is once again a multi course format with the North course and the considerably tougher South course both being played. It’s fairly important that your golfer goes well on the North course, as it is 500 yards shorter than the 7700 yard South course and historically plays 2-3 shots easier. The coastal winds are also likely to be a factor so check your golfers tee times, which are already out.

As always I’m looking for value, but I’m also going for guys who have a history of playing well here in the past, as a good course record and a positive experience of putting on the Poa greens stands for a great deal.

Lanto Griffin – currently ? with Star Sports

This price is just flat out wrong. Griffin has posted multiple top 20 finishes here over the last five years. He’s been quiet of late, but he a PGA Tour winner and he has quality in spades. You’d do worse than take that top 20 finish bet or have an each way nudge.

Max Homa – currently ? with Star Sports

If you want a slightly less exotic angle but a more proven runner, Max Homa (pictured above) is another man with multiple top 20 finishes here. This is a man who is fast becoming one of my favourite golfers. In two short years Homa has become a multiple PGA Tour champion and now sits at number 16 in the world. He’s had an excellent start to the season and currently sits fourth on the Fedex Cup standings. I think he’ll bag a major sooner or later and of the top of the field here, Homa looks the best value.

Cam Davis – currently ? with Star Sports

Davis has not missed a cut here in five years. That’s some going and I cannot ignore that fact around a golfer who has the distance to handle the South course if the winds get up. Watch this kid he’s a PGA Tour winner who has the X factor about him and will win a couple of big one’s along the way.

Sebastian Munoz – currently ? with Star Sports

Munoz has an early start on the easier North Course on Wednesday. If he can get away to a good start in the calmer morning conditions, this price could look lovely value. Munoz had an impressive multiple high leader board finishes in 2022, yet I think the market continues to over price him.
