STAR PREVIEW: All aboard the Windsor special
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Star Sports ‘special’ Windsor double at 6/4 looks a tempter.
I can always remember in the old days the last race favourite at Windsor on a Monday night used to be a ‘system’ followed by many. In those days, it was always a maiden that closed the card rather than the class 5 handicap that closes tonight’s card. It seemed to oblige more often than not.
Tonight’s first two favourites on the Windsor card look to have exceptional chances.
Tropical Rock sets the bar high for the debutants to aim at in the opener. She has been placed in above average maidens at Ascot and Newmarket and should make it 3-2-1 tonight providing there is nothing exceptional amongst the newcomers.
The second leg of the double is the Roger Charlton trained Makzeem in the 6.15. It’s always dangerous to make excuses but he did look unlucky at Newbury last time out when denied a clear run two furlongs out and finished second to Frontiersman. In any case, the winner has a Group 2 entry and the form is probably quite smart.
It would be disappointing if he wasn’t good enough to account for Nonios who has a long absence to overcome after two modest second places at Wolverhampton.
